You know what I’d like to see? A FC that I could (in theory) bring my whole family without bumbling across inappropriate content, skits, and lewd exhibitions of PDA . Some place where I could learn how others utilize their fursuits in a positive way that enhances their community. I’d like to practice new fursuiting entertainment & mascotting techniques, and learn how to collaborate with other fursuit artists.
How would we make is successful with out it coming off as “censoring” all the fun out of the project?
Well, look at what they do in Seattle: – fursuit bowling, stuff like that – – – Look at clean art – Disney art – There’s lots of fun art that can be utilized & featured. Have a Movie room that runs anthropomorphic movies like some of the Don Bluth projects, Disney stuff, etc. There’s content out there that’s not necessarily targeted at Christians, and though secular, is not counter to Christian principles.
Game nights – board games – Dances – It seems these things could be supported. Alcohol: It’s a family-friendly event – let the participants know that they are welcome to visit establishments outside of the event. Recommend some places that are ‘pre-contacted’ which expect & welcome costumed people and folks with ears and tails…
Have a code of conduct for the participant that sets the theme – make it part of the application so that no one is surprised when they see that the focus of the event is to offer a venue that is designed for ‘whole family’ participation, including minors from ages zero to 100.

Could it survive as a ‘dry con’ ? Mmmm, why not? If you choose a venue that does NOT have a liquor license, you could probably make it easier. Stipulate that no alcohol should be conspicuously displayed in public areas. Offer a ‘non-dry’ location recommendation that is open from 8 PM onwards and then administer & run it such that it takes off-campus as a ‘field trip / adventure tour’, so to speak.
We’ve done something similar with my car club when we’ve had a national event, and it’s worked well and it’s kept the alcohol out of the hotel. We visited downtown Memphis TN, had an incredible dry rub rib dinner, and toured Beale St on a Friday night. Thus, the event location stays family & kid friendly, but still offers alternate venues for those folks who don’t have kids.
People who don’t have kids… like Wolfin… who doesn’t… nevermind.
I agree with what you’ve said here. The things you’ve suggested could definitely work. We simply would need enough attendees for it. It almost requires us to contact everyone prior to ensure attendance. Many Christian Furs seem to be “in the closet” moreso even than other furs…
