I shoot squirrels in the backyard for my dad, too! *awkward grin*
That’s kind of creepy. It must be some sort of national sport. Poor squirrels.
With deer head mounts, it doesn’t really waste any meat. (People don’t eat the head, and the rest is just skin.)
With deer running after being shot, the ones who run are generally shot in or near the heart. Lots of wild animals can run a ways after being shot in the heart. (A lot of running ones are because people missed the heart and hit the guts, lungs, or shoulder.) My family always tries to shoot deer in the head or neck. They die instantly and don’t run. (If you miss in these cases, there’s a fair chance the dear will not escape with an injury.) We haven’t had venison for a few years due to the low deer population. 🙁
