I’ve seen a few shows with true artificial intelligence. One of the more recent trends with AI is to have an AI that is only part AI and it has some spark of real life in it. I think this trend is starting because people nowadays better understand how computers work and realize that they aren’t going to be able to figure things out without a spark of life.
It will be interesting to see where automated devices go in the next few years. I think the minimum wage laws are going to give computers a bigger advantage. If someone has to pay lots of money for a simple job, replacing it with a computer would seem like a viable option.
My family’s industry, cattle, will not be taken over by AIs any time soon. Dealing with animals, especially animals that are ranging over miles of land, has too many variables for anything computerized to deal with. Imagine trying to program a computer to pull calves out of washouts. It just wouldn’t work.
Farming, on the other hand, is getting very computerized. Pivots are now able to be programed to give just the right amount of water to different parts of a field. Tractors are being controlled by GPS so the driver doesn’t have to steer them. The seed planting can also be controlled by computers, so the driver just has to sit in the tractor and do a few things at certain times. This makes farming much more efficient, but the downside is that if the GPS goes down, everything will screech to a halt. If something happens to our satellites, it could have a huge impact our agricultural industry.
I just found out about your podcast and listened to this, what I thought was the first episode only to have it said at the end there are hundreds more, the rss and stitcher just go back to this one so is there another feed that has all your episodes in it? Thanks!
