I can relate to the trash stuff pretty well. I quit my job at a library after my boss chewed me out for 45 minutes because I tried to save hundreds of supposedly moldy books in the garbage can. (Which is legal.) At the time, I didn’t know it was legal and I was forced to put the books back in the trash because she threatened to call pretty much everyone, including the sheriff. She seemed to think it was her business if I was endangered by books that might have been moldy, and that I could sue the library if someone in my family, or the neighbor’s kids (SAVE THE CHILDREN), got an asthma attack from the mold. It really wasn’t any of her business what I did with the trash, but it’s another example of how people can panic over stupid things.
While I worked at the library, there were a fair amount of free range children. It’s a small enough town kids still run around a lot, which is a good thing.
